How can I get the old house smell out?

My house is a really old house and its got this particular smell to it that just smells old. Before I moved in it was my Paw Paw's house and it needed some work so I painted all the walls and even replaced some flooring but it's still has that old smell to it. How can I get the smell out of my house?
Before I painted and refurbished the house I did a deep cleaning on everything. But I didnt think about the pipes.

well, i agree with eli but you may need to hose down the basement with lots of soap, wash down the wood work like baseboards and doors with ammonia. it cuts grease and gets dirt off. check the attic to make sure there are no leaks. wipe down everything in sight including cupboards in kitchen and bathrooms. check under sinks for leaks. eventually you may want to replace drain pipes under sinks because they harbor a lot of bacteria and could be rusty. wipe all around the toilet bowls with clorox wipes. as soon as weather permits clean windows. wash any draperies. is the kitchen stove clean too? all these things can make an odor. if he was a smoker it will take a lot of scrubbing.
