hes 5 weeks old i just got him today hes name is fudge a brown hooded rat anyways how should i bond with? and any cool toys for them? ect.
how should i bath him and learn him tricks and stuff
First I suggest you join Goosemoose.com. Its a forum for rat lovers and you can ask all the questions you want and the people will gladly help you out.
Second, You need to get the little guy a same sex friend. Rats are very social and will become depressed, can stop eating and become destructive and harm themselves out of boredom and lonlieness if they don’t have a rat friend. It doesn’t matter how much time you spend with them, you just cant do the things other rats can do and provide.
As for bonding, that can take up to a month or more for him to get comfortable with you. Start out by putting an old T-Shirt you’ve worn all day in his cage. This will get him use to your scent.
Then start feeding him treats from your hand so he gets the idea that you = good things and will become to trust you.
Then after he's comfortable around you, you can start holding him. He may poo and pee at first due to him being a bit scared, but he'll quit after a while.
As for toys. Rats will play with just about anything. My guys love toilet paper tubes, small boxes, hammocks and tubes made out of fleece.
You really don’t need to bathe rats unless they start to smell or have gotten dirty. If you do need to bathe him, use a very mild kitten shampoo. NOT one with flea killer.
And for the tricks. With rats, they're very smart so trick learning is limitless. With my rats, I always teach them to come to their name first, then go from there.
