Checkered Tile & Striped Walls: Would this look odd?
We're thinking of doing our bathrooms in a very light mint and cream checkered pattern. I'd like to do the walls in a verticle strip of the same colors. White pedistal sink, toilet and tub and chrome fixtures. Will this look odd?
I kind of want the place to have a 40's beach cottage feel....any other ideas (we need to do our living room, kitchen and bedroom as well). Thanks!
Actually, I think it sounds great! Kind of like a twist between modern and retro beach. I don't think this will look odd at all as long as it is done to scale.
My question is this? Why do a "cream" color on the walls and tiles when you are doing "white" for the sink and toilet? I think the white will make the cream look like it is dirty. I would do the tile and the stripes in white also.
I would buy one of the newer "narrow" toilets that are out there, they look more like the retro pull chain tanks of days gone by. Then put a white shelf or small cabinet near the ceiling to give it that 40's feeling of a ceinging mounted tank.
Also, white beadboard was used a lot back then so whenever you can, use it. It has that beach house feel to it and might look good in the kitchen or living room.
Its nice that you are using green for this look instead of blue, which is the color most people pick when doing a beach theme.
