why is my slow draining tub causing the toilet to bubble and water to leak from the wall?
A month ago we had a slow drain in the shower which leaked water through the wall onto the LR floor and out from under the vanity. Plumber snaked out the roof vent and said to use single ply toilet paper. Now, a month later, the drain is slow and is leaking out from the wall again. I even used caustic professional pipe cleaner as was suggested by the plumber (m. acid) to no avail. Could it be toilet paper clogging up my vent stack? Kitchen and master bath are fine.
well first, if your toilet is bubbling, this means its not venting properly or theres a blockage somewhere in your toilet or sewer line. vent stacks do not get clogged normally, i seriously doubt this is your problem. the reason your plumber ran the snake thru the vent is simply to gain access to whichever drain he was unclogging, when theres no access to a drain, most times us plumbers will utilize the vent since it interconnects to the drain. if your drain is slow and leaking, not only will the drain in question need to be snaked again, theres a leak in your piping which is allowing water to seep, not good - chemicals just will not work, waste of money. try flushing t.p. in the toilet and run other drains in the home, if water rises into your shower, you have confirmed a mainline clog. i suggest you call another plumber and have these issues evaluated. all in all, you have a slow or partially clogged drain (possibly sewer line) and a leaking drain pipe in a wall -
